How to Join an Alien Usenet Discussion Group

Usenet discussion groups are similar to mailing lists or forums with BBS style messages, but are easier to join and are often more public. Usenet groups exist on almost every topic imaginable, including aliens. With a bit of preparation, you can easily join an alien Usenet discussion group.
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet service provider
  • ISP news server address
  • Mail client
  • Newsreader client

Join an Alien Discussion Group on Usenet

  1. Step 1

Install a newsreader client, so you can join an Usenet discussion group. Most email software now includes an integrated newsreader, and there are a few web readers (news-to-web gateways) available. However, the news-to-web gateways offer limited features.

  2. Step 2

Search through your Internet service provider's (ISP) available Usenet groups. If your ISP does not host newsgroup servers, you will be referred to a third party provider. Contact your ISP for more information.

  3. Step 3

Look at the alt.* hierarchy groups. Discussion groups in this hierarchy all begin with "alt." and provide specialized interest groups, including one for aliens. The discussion groups "alt.ufo.reports" and "alt.alien.visitors" are just a couple of the Usenet groups available.

  4. Step 4

Subscribe to the alien newsgroups you are interested in according to the directions for your reader client. Most clients allow you to perform a simple search to select the groups you want to join and then simply click "Subscribe."

  5. Step 5

Read through the last few days of messages before you reply. You should bring yourself up to speed on the current discussion before you join in. Otherwise, you may be repeating another comment or replying to old posts.

  6. Step 6

Expect to find just about anything in the alien newsgroups. Posts will include discussions on implant chips, abductions, species, sightings, space ships, pop culture, science and religion.

    Tips & Warnings
    • There are several freeware and shareware Usenet newsreaders available for both Macs and PCs.
    • Your ISP will provide the server for newsgroups. It is usually "news.xxx.net" or "mail.xxx.net."
    • Search for "Alien," "UFO," "Abduction" or any specific alien term when looking for a Usenet group to join. While more general groups usually have a more active discussion, you may find a specific topic you want to focus on.
    • If you no longer want to be part of the Usenet discussion, just unsubscribe. Unlike forums and mailing lists, no one will know if you come and go.
    • Expect popular newsgroups to have thousands of recent messages. You should only download the last 500--possibly just the headers--to conserve hard disk space.
